FilmAT 2011

VI FilmAT – Film, Art & Tourism Festival, accompanied by the IV Conference of the Polish Tourfilm Academy, has ended with a great success. For the first time the festival was held in Warsaw, drawing a large crowd of domestic and international guests, as it does every year. The management of the festival received over two hundred entries, out of which 128 was accepted to compete for the grand prize. The productions came from twenty countries: Austria, Bosnia, Brasil, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Danmark, Holland, Hungary, Indonesia, Korea, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, The Republic of South Africa, Serbia, Sweden and Ukraine. An international jury was presided over by Zbigniew Żmudzki, an Oscar winner for Peter and The Wolf, a film expert at the Polish Tourfilm Academy. The festival is under the patronage of the highest national authorities: Ministry of Culture and `National Heritage, Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Polish Tourism Organization, and Polish Film Institute.

A 2011 Tourist Statuette, which is awarded to individuals and corporate entities that successfully promote Poland abroad, went to Tadeusz Sygietyński State Folk Group of Song and Dance 'Mazowsze' and Matecznik Mazowsze.

A Jerzy Szkamruk film Chopin‘s Story by Ian Gillan Deep Purple, TV Project Sp. z o.o., won a Grand Prix Art; A Grand Prix Tourism went to Hungary – World of Potentials - AERA Property & Destination.

This year’s jury decided to award a Grand Prix Innovation to Polish Tourist Organization for two films: Nature and Euro 2012 (Platige Image).

The best productions were screened at Alchemy Theater in Old Town, Warsaw, as well as an internet TV channel - SPA TV. Internet users had an opportunity to vote for an audience award; the majority of which was won by “Lubelskie – chwilo trwaj”.


IV Conference of Polish Tourfilm Academy

State of the Art Technologies was the main theme of the conference of the Polish Tourfilm Academy, which we proposed for the year dedicated to Maria Skłodowska Curie - the year of science and discoveries. Kultura Theater provided the audience with a good quality of sound and picture, whereas Polish and international experts made sure that the audience could enjoy a variety of interesting lectures and speeches. The conference was honored by the presence of Alexander Kammel, Director of CIFFT, who has been an honorary president of the Academy since its very inception; and of Paweł Lewandowski, Director of Marketing at Polish Tourism Organization. The Conference was hosted by Ewa Kotus, Director and Founder of the Polish Tourfilm Academy.

The Meaning of Music in Film – Paweł Betley, ZTUDIO Sound Studio, Polish Tourfilm Academy Expert in music;
Secretes of Animation - Zbigniew Żmudzki, Se-ma-for Studio, Polish Tourfilm Academy expert in film; and
Ukraine’s Promotional Opportunity – Euro 2012 – Aleksandr Tokar (Kharkov City Hall), Dmytro Konovalov, producer of Kharkov.

The Conference was summarized by Alexander Kammel, Director of CIFFT and Honorary President of Polish Tourfilm Academy, who praised the professionalism of all the speakers.

Short lectures are the hardest to prepare, but that allowed time for ten different topics to be presented to the participants. The conference ended with a visit to the Kopernik Science Center, Europe’s most modern center of this type.


Special screening of The Mill and The Cross

FilmAT – Film Art & Tourism Festival has for the first time in its history awarded a feature film. The Program Council of the Polish Tourfilm Academy unanimously decided to confer a new 2011 Female Tourist Statuette on Lech Majewski for his artistic experiment “The Mill and The Cross”. The audience had an opportunity to see the screening of this movie at Alchemy Theater.

Award Ceremony

We are famous for our hospitality. Boasting a diversified and exquisite cuisine, we decided to serve it at the gala event. Chicken broth with kalduny (stuffed dumplings), roasted duck with apples, roasted meats, cold cuts, plums in vinegar, pickled cucumbers, salads, lard, herrings..., apple-pie topped with ice-cream and excellent white and red Hungarian wines were tickling the guests’ palates. A good Polish-Hungarian partnership is evident not only in history of the two countries but also in this well-selected combination of food and wine.

Director of FilmAT – Film Art & Tourism Festival Ewa Kotus hosted the ceremony at Gromada Hotel. The duty of the Honorary President of the Festival took upon herself Elżbieta W±sowicz-Zaborek, Vice President of the Polish Tourism Organization.

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corp: His Excellency Dr Ted Pekane - Ambassador of the The Republic of South Africa, accompanied by his spouse; His Excellency Robert Kiss - Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary, accompanied by his wife; Attila Szalai - Cultural and Press Advisor of the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary, accompanied by his spouse Lilian Suchar; Federico Chabaud – Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Mexico; Miroljub Petrovic – Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, together with his wife; Geraldo Bartosa Segundo - First Secretary of the Embassy of Brasil; Taras Tokarski - Advisor - Minister at the Embassy of Ukraine; and Ewa Mikke - Representative of the Trade Office at the Embassy of Portugal.

Our festival is a member of CIFFT, Vienna, which the guests could see on the screen throughout the ceremony, featuring the logos of all the members of the organization. The gala ceremony was honored with the presence of Lee Gluckman, President of CIFFT in Vienna, as well as the representatives of other festivals from every part of the world. The event was attended by representatives of the Marshal Office of the Lubelski and Warmińsko-Mazurski Voivodeships as well as representatives of municipal authorities from Kharkov, Warsaw, and Białystok.

The organizers of the festival awarded statuettes to the members of the jury in appreciation of their efforts. The winning productions received awards conferred by the jury, festival management and Polish Tourfilm Academy. The winners could see their productions once again on the big screen. During intermissions the Gala participants could enjoy music of the world performed by two musicians: Magdalena Tejchman and Wojciech Lubertowicz. The ceremony ended late at night. It was recorded by SPA TV and our own cameras.
