"COMING HOME"
GITA MEMMENA EXHIBITION

With great plesaure we invite guests of the I International Tourfilm Festival and all of the people of Płock for extraordinary exhibition of latvian photographer Gita Memmena.

Gita Memmena was born in Riga, Latvia in 1977. From 2002 lives in Saulcrasti, rural area Zvejniekciems.

Educated in psychology (bachelors degree). Works in municipal Tourism Information Centre as a managing director.

In 2006 together with others photo amateurs participate in exhibition dedicated native town Saulkrasti.

"Consciously to take pictures I started in year 2002 when my family moved to Zvejniekciems. My daughter was 5 months old and we decided that it would be better for us to move out from big city. I fell in love to Zvejniekciems and Saulkrasti city. First works was created for Saulkrasti town website, for work with tourism guide. Most important was the fact that I could do something creative and it helped me to calm my mind. Some of my works I found good enough to show others. ;))) First my critics was family, friends. They supported me to participate in exhibition. Thanks to them! Relevant to mention that I am not photographer. It is fact. Photographing process for me is more like pray and I don't create art, I just "record" those pressure moments gave to me.

Most of my pictures are nature - Baltic Sea, sunsets, coastline.

I will take to tourism festival a story "Coming home". You see I live in place which used to be a fisherman village and still there are people who live from fishing. Every morning and evening they sail into sea to put nets. Every evening they come home from a sea. For them it is hard work to do, but for us - observers, it is something romantic. So I made some pictures from one of those many evenings. Story is about all of us - we come home from work, studies..., but we can look different, as a way we come to who we are, to place I belong... I think it is even more important.

In pictures dominate nature - being in nature, being part of it. I find it as healing process. It is way to spent more time close to nature and get some peace in everyday hurry.

In my opinion, if we look to this world with good thoughts as it is continued inhale and exhale of Love, with clear eyes of soul, we will find more small and big things to delight and we will be more emphatic. Important not to forget significance of human and nature ecology, so we could leave this world for our children and grandchildren and others with beauty created by Great Mystery." - Gita Memmena.
